Our story

A college built on the floor, not the lecture hall

Founded in 2009 by colour specialist Amara Lindqvist, Kesho College prepares future salon juniors through structured, hand-to-hand craft education. We believe professional hairdressing and beauty skills develop best when students practise alongside working stylists every day.

01

Our Foundation and Teaching Method

Amara Lindqvist established Kesho College in 2009 at 14 Harbour Lane in Lindmoor to address a persistent gap between classroom theory and real salon expectations. Our curriculum follows a rigorous three-stage training method: demonstrate, practise on blocks, and work on real clients. Instructors first demonstrate every haircut, colour formula, or barbering technique step by step in front of the class.

Students then repeat the method on mannequin blocks until finger angles, sectioning precision, and scissor control become second nature. Only after mastering the technique on mannequins do trainees advance to supervised live clients in our Student Salon. This progressive structure ensures graduates possess the confidence, speed, and technical discipline required to step smoothly into professional salon junior positions.

02

Class Sizes and Floor Supervision

To maintain deliberate, high-standard teaching across every programme, Kesho College caps all cohorts at a maximum of 14 students. In the practical training areas and during client service sessions, we maintain a strict floor ratio of one instructor to seven students.

This close supervision ensures that every student receives immediate posture corrections, direct feedback on hand position, and personal guidance on formulation and technique. Small classes allow instructors to know each learner’s strengths, working tempo, and development areas in detail. Rather than learning from a distance or watching crowded demonstrations, our students spend thirty hours each week in close contact with experienced mentors who observe and refine every movement.

03

Core Values in Daily Craft

Our daily training is anchored by three practical values: deliberate handwork, honest client communication, and disciplined salon maintenance. We believe technical precision must always come before speed, requiring students to measure section widths carefully and control blade angles with complete intention.

Client communication is treated as a core trade skill, training juniors to conduct thorough consultations, ask clear questions, and manage expectations calmly. Finally, our students take full responsibility for tool hygiene, station sanitation, and evening clean-down. These shared standards build working habits that salon owners respect and junior stylists rely on throughout their working careers.
