Stories and news

Three family stories and three news posts sit on this page. The stories follow the Andersen family, Priya Raman and the Silva Okoro family.

A family of four tours the campus corridor with a staff member.

Family story

The Andersen family

The Andersen family moved from Copenhagen in 2024. Their children are in Grade 2 and Grade 7, so one child is in the Primary Years Programme and the other is in the Middle Years Programme. They write about settling in within the first term: the 8:20 arrival, the first weeks in English-medium classes, and keeping a home language while Portuguese is taught from Kindergarten and, for the older child, a new language is on the Grade 6 pathway. The family story is the long read on this site. It stays with that first term and does not report later results. Both children joined a school of 640 students from about 40 nationalities, founded in 1994, on the Lisbon campus.

Student story

Priya Raman

Priya Raman is in the Diploma Programme class of 2025. Her piece is about the extended essay and the library: where she sat to work, how the carrels are used, and what it was like to research inside an English-medium DP cohort. Jonas Becker is DP Coordinator for Grades 11 and 12. The essay is part of the Diploma, and IB exam registration for DP students is included in tuition, which for Grades 11–12 is €23,900 in 2026–27. Priya’s account is a student’s view of work already completed in the class of 2025. It is not a promise about later classes. The library she describes is the same room younger students use for ordinary reading.

Family story

The Silva Okoro family

The Silva Okoro family is a Portuguese-Nigerian family and joined in January, one of the two main entry points. They write about keeping two home languages while their children learn in English. That account sits beside the school’s language pathway: English as the teaching language, Portuguese from Kindergarten, French or German from Grade 6, and mother-tongue clubs. Mei-Lin Chou, Head of Languages, leads that pathway. January entry follows the same five admissions steps as August entry, including previous school reports, the €250 application fee and, after an offer, the €2,000 enrolment deposit. Their story is about language at home in the first months, not about a particular class or teacher.

New science wing opens in September

A new science wing opens in September, at the start of the school year. Term 1 begins on 1 September 2026. The wing is for science lessons, including the practical work Middle Years students already do at the lab benches. It is part of the same campus, at Rua do Jardim Alto 18, 1400-150 Lisboa, and it does not change the school day: arrival at 8:20, lessons from 8:30 to 15:20, activities until 16:30. Amara Nwosu, MYP Coordinator, oversees Grades 6 to 10, where that laboratory work sits in the programme. No separate fee is charged for use of the wing. Middle Years tuition remains €20,400 for 2026–27.

Grade 10 Personal Project exhibition

Grade 10 students in the Middle Years Programme show their Personal Projects at the exhibition. The Personal Project is part of MYP, which Amara Nwosu coordinates for Grades 6 to 10. Families of Grade 10 students are invited to see the work. The exhibition is a school event on the campus, not an external fair. It does not replace term dates or the winter concert on 17 December 2026. Projects are completed in English, the teaching language, with the library available for research in the same way DP students use it for the extended essay. Tuition for these grades is €20,400 for the 2026–27 school year, and the exhibition has no separate ticket charge in the fee list.

Winter concert programme

The winter concert is on 17 December 2026. The programme post sets out the order of the evening for families. Music at Kanade includes strings, and students play violin and cello in the music room during the year; the concert is the evening those ensembles play for parents. Term 1 ends the next day, on 18 December 2026, and Term 2 does not begin until 6 January 2027. The concert is on campus. It is not an open morning: the visits for prospective families remain 10 November 2026, 12 January 2027 and 9 February 2027, Tuesdays, 9:30 to 11:00. Office hours on the day of the concert still follow the published Monday to Friday pattern, 8:00 to 16:30, unless the office writes to parents with a change.
