IB World School · Lisbon · K–12
One school,
many ways
to arrive.
Kanade has welcomed families from about forty countries since 1994. Children from four to eighteen learn in English, keep their home language and leave ready for the IB Diploma.
Why families choose Kanade
Learning in English, at home in many languages.
Families choose Kanade when they want the full IB sequence in English and do not want to leave Lisbon to find it. The school was founded in 1994. It teaches children from the year they turn four until Grade 12, on one campus at Jardim Alto. Primary Years, Middle Years and the Diploma Programme follow one after another at the same address. A student who arrives later joins that sequence in August or in January, or during the year if a place is free.
Lessons are in English. That does not replace the language of home. Portuguese begins in Kindergarten, which gives the youngest children a way into the city they live in. From Grade 6 a student may add French or German. Mother-tongue clubs meet through the week so other languages stay in use. In a school of 640 students from about 40 nationalities, this is the ordinary timetable, not a side arrangement.
The day has a published shape, and the school keeps to it. Arrival is at 8:20. Lessons run from 8:30 to 15:20, and activities continue until 16:30. Parents who want to see the campus before they apply come to an open morning on a Tuesday, from 9:30 to 11:00, and walk the courtyard, the library and a classroom with admissions.
