Frames and Lenses

the frame room

The frame room is a small room next to the exam rooms. Frames start at $160, lenses are quoted after the exam, and Ines Kowalczyk does the fitting.

Trial lenses, chosen
by the distance you
work at.

The frame room is the small room beside the three exam rooms. It is not a separate shop you walk through to reach the chair. You come here after the explanation, or on a later visit if you want to think first. A tray of trial lenses and a trial frame is how we are still deciding a prescription. The wall of frames is how we choose what you will wear once that prescription is known.

The selection is sized to be fitted in one sitting: a range of bridges and eyesizes, metal and acetate, quiet shapes. Frames start at $160. If a frame costs more than that starting figure, Ines Kowalczyk tells you the price before anything is glazed. You see the frame, the amount in US dollars, and the way it sits on the face.

The photographs on this page are the tray of trial lenses and the frame wall. One of them includes a boy trying frames with a parent. Children are given that time. Adults are given the same honesty about price and fit.

Fitting with Ines Kowalczyk

Ines Kowalczyk is the optician. She fits frames and lenses. She does not refract. Bring the prescription we have just written, or an outside prescription if you are here only for glasses, and she will check that the lens type matches the way you work. A screen distance that was measured in the exam is written on the order, so an occupational lens is made for that range and not for a generic near.

A child at the frame wall has a parent in the room. Ines leaves time for the child to look up, look down, and forget they are being watched. An adult who needs a thin metal frame, or a deeper acetate, is told what the fit is doing at the bridge and the side.

Adjustments after you have worn the glasses are part of her work. If something presses or slides, come back to the frame room. You do not have to save that comment for the six-month check. If the prescription itself seems wrong, she will send you back to the optometrist rather than keep bending the frame to compensate.

Lens types

lens types

We describe lenses in words. Single-vision lenses do one distance. When the day is mostly far vision, they may be the whole order. Occupational lenses cover a set near range. In the account of M. that range was 50–70 cm, with a near add of +0.75, for documents and a monitor. Occupational lenses are a poor choice for driving, and we say so before they are made. A separate pair for distance and a separate pair for the desk is sometimes the clearer answer, and we price it that way when it is the honest recommendation.

Lenses are quoted after the exam because the quote depends on the prescription and on the working distance. There is no lens price on the fee list, and we will not invent one to make the page look complete. Frames from $160 are the figure we can publish. The lens quote is a conversation with the numbers we measured.

The same quoting rule, and the same frame starting price, apply in every language. The currency is US dollars.

From the order to collection

order to collection

When you agree a frame and a lens type, the order is written with your name, the measurements Ines takes on the frame, and the date you can collect. We tell you that collection day when we order. We do not print a single turnaround and pretend every lens is the same job. Collection is from this room.

If the glasses are for a child, we check the fit again at collection and show the parent how the sides should sit. If they are occupational lenses, we ask you to look at a screen-like distance in the room before you leave, so the first test of the range is not on Monday morning at your own desk. The exam fee and the glasses are separate charges. You will have heard both figures before you agree.

Book a frame visit on +1 555 0142 208 or at hello@hitomivision.example. Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00, Saturday 9:00–16:00. Sunday and public holidays closed. If you still need the exam, book that first. Frames without a current prescription are a guess, and we would rather measure.
