Solar roofs, fitted by the people who sign them off.

Ruth Calloway designs every system and Tomás Ibarra’s crew fits it. More than 600 roofs since 2011.

[02] Roofwork

We design, permit, fit and look after rooftop solar in the Alder Valley.

Taiyo Solar Works is a small company with a workshop on Foundry Lane in Marlow. Ruth Calloway, an electrical engineer, designs every system and files the permits. Tomás Ibarra, a roofer by trade, runs the installs, and the people on your roof are the people who work for us, not a rotating crew of subcontractors.

We work within about sixty miles of Marlow: Kenning, Ashby, Halden, Pell Harbor and Westbrook. We say what a roof can and cannot do, give estimates with their assumptions written down, and come back after the install to check that the numbers made sense.

[03] Featured installation

A gabled roof in Kenning, with a battery for the evenings.

The Kenning house has a south-facing slope with almost no shade, and a family that cooks and charges the car after six. We fitted 8.8 kW on that slope in 2025 and added a 13.5 kWh battery in the garage so the afternoon surplus carries into the evening.

The figures above are modelled estimates, not a promise: they use the system’s expected yield and a $0.20/kWh household rate. We visit after the first year to compare them with the meter.

[06] Free roof assessment

A free roof assessment, then a written proposal.

Nobody needs to commit to anything to have us look at the roof. Sofia Reyes or Marcus Bell will come out, measure the slopes, check the shading and the fuse board, and then we put the result in writing: what we would fit, where, for how much, and what output and saving to expect, with the assumptions written down.

[07] The crew

The people who will be on your roof.

Every job has a named lead, two people on the roof at all times, harnesses and edge protection set up before the first panel is lifted. The founders still go on site: Ruth checks every layout before it is signed off, and Tomás walks every finished roof.
