[02] The roof

A south slope with almost no shade.

The house has a 35-degree slope facing south, a clay tile finish in good condition and one chimney that shades the lowest corner for about forty minutes on winter mornings. Sofia Reyes measured it from a ladder and moved the first row of panels up by a metre to clear it.

The family cooks and charges a car after six, so the roof was only half the question. The other half was where the afternoon surplus would go.

[03] The install

Three days on the roof, one in the garage.

Marcus Bell’s crew of three fitted 22 panels over three days in March 2025. Day one was rails and flashings, day two panels and cabling, day three the roof walk and testing. Priya Natarajan mounted the 13.5 kWh battery and the inverter on the garage wall on the fourth day.

The local network operator inspected the connection two weeks later and the system went live the same week. Total time from signed proposal to switch-on: six weeks.

[05] The household

What the family says.

“We used to be out of power by nine in the evening. Now the battery carries us to bedtime on most days, and Tomás came back after a year to compare the meter with the estimate.”
