Sizes

Five household sizes share one building at 48 Alder Row, Lindenport. The way to choose is a free twenty-minute walk with an attendant, then the monthly price of the size that fits.

  • Same-day move-in
    if booked before 15:00
  • Staffed building
    09:00-19:00, 7 days
  • Free hand-truck loan
    $0, no deposit

Three facts sit under the page heading because they apply to every size. Same-day move-in is available when the visit is booked before 15:00, you bring photo ID, and you pay the first month as you sign. The building is staffed from 09:00 to 19:00, seven days, which is what staffed means here. The hand-truck loan is $0, as is the key card and the admin fee, and there is no deposit. Mikura Storage is one dedicated building at 48 Alder Row, Lindenport: six floors, 412 units, and five household sizes. A visit is free, takes about twenty minutes, and comes with no obligation. You walk the corridor with an attendant before you choose.

Five sizes, in order

The names describe a household load, not a second home. Shelf is for a small stack: cartons and a suitcase, the sort of gap a cot or a short move can leave in a small room.

How to measure

Start from the floor area

Start with the square metres you would sign for, not with a feeling that you have “a few things.” Shelf is 0.8 m². Closet is 1.5 m². Box Room is 3 m². Spare Room is 5 m². Garage Bay is 8 m². At home, clear a patch of floor to the area you are considering and place the real load inside it: the cartons, the suitcase, the folded bike, the furniture from the flat you are leaving. What stands outside the patch will not fit through good intentions. The attendant can repeat the check here with a tape at an open door during the twenty-minute visit. Measuring is part of the visit. It is not a separate appointment, and it is not billed.

Name the piece that decides it

Most households are sized by the ordinary description. A wardrobe’s worth and a folded bike point to Closet. A studio flat’s contents point to Box Room. A one-bedroom flat points to Spare Room. A two-bedroom flat points to Garage Bay. Ten boxes and a suitcase point to Shelf. If one object is the reason you are tempted to size up, say so when you book the slot. Mei Lin Ho will look at that object against an open door and say whether it belongs in the size you hoped for or in the next one. A bike that cannot be folded is a different problem from the folded bike in the Closet description. Bring a note of the measurements. The visit is still free if you decide the piece should stay at home.

Leave a path you can walk

A floor filled to the last corner is a floor you cannot use. Households who stay longer than a few weeks, as Hana Yilmaz did for fourteen months in a Closet, or the Okoye family for eight months in a Shelf, need to reach one carton without unloading the rest. Leave a walking gap. Where the unit has shelves, use them so the floor area stays a path rather than a pile. Write down the size you think you need before you come, then change your mind after the walk if the open door says otherwise. The agreement you sign is for one size at its monthly price, for at least one month, with thirty days’ notice when you are ready to leave. Nothing in the measuring conversation locks you in before you sign.

Closet is for clothes on a run of wall and a folded bike, or for a long run of books if that is what you actually own. Box Room is the size Owen and Lucia Marsh used between leases, a studio flat’s contents kept together. Spare Room takes the contents of a one-bedroom flat. Garage Bay takes a two-bedroom flat and is the largest size we rent to households. Mei Lin Ho, the size adviser, will tell you if a single awkward piece needs the next size up. You can still leave without taking a unit.

The monthly price does not add an admin fee. The admin fee is $0 on every size. The key card is $0. Rooms are climate-held between 18 and 24 C and kept below 60% relative humidity. Walls are fire-rated. Doors open by key card. The building uses 24-hour video. The loading bay is free, and the hand truck is a free loan while you load or collect. Optional contents cover is $6 a month on any size, up to $5,000, for fire, water and theft. These are operating facts. They are not a ranking, and they are not a promise that a particular carton cannot be harmed. Read the cover as optional, with that limit, or decline it.
