Between two leases

Owen and Lucia Marsh had an emptied flat and a gap between two leases. The cartons were packed. The next set of keys was not ready. They wanted the studio’s contents kept together, close enough to fetch, without taking on a second place to live.

They booked a visit at Mikura Storage, 48 Alder Row, Lindenport. A visit here is free, lasts about twenty minutes, and carries no obligation. An attendant met them at the desk and walked the corridor with them. They looked into an open unit instead of choosing a name from a list and hoping. Box Room is 3 m², which is 32 sq ft. On the price list it is the size that fits a studio flat’s contents. That was the load sitting with them in the emptied flat: furniture and cartons, not a one-bedroom flat and not a pile that would live in a Closet.

They took the Box Room at the ordinary monthly price of $98. The minimum term is one month. They stayed five. There is no deposit. The admin fee is $0. The key card is $0. They showed photo ID and paid the first month when they signed. The visit had been booked before 15:00, so same-day move-in was open to them, and they used it.

The covered loading bay is free. Rafael Souza looks after the bay and the hand trucks, and the hand-truck loan is $0. They moved the cartons from the hatchback onto a truck and along the corridor. The key card they were given opens the building from 06:00 to 23:00, seven days. Desk hours are shorter. The desk is staffed from 09:00 to 19:00, seven days, and staffed means those hours. After 19:00 the card still works inside the access window. An attendant does not.

The room is held between 18 and 24 C and kept below 60% relative humidity, as the other units are. Walls are fire-rated. Video runs 24 hours. Key-card doors are standard. None of that means the goods cannot be harmed. It is how this one building is run. Optional contents cover is $6 a month, up to $5,000, for fire, water and theft. It applies to a Box Room the same way it applies to any other size. They could take it or leave it at the desk. The $6 does not change the rent of $98.

Five months is long enough for a temporary arrangement to become the place the goods actually live. Owen and Lucia treated the unit as storage, not as a room to visit for its own sake. They left a path between cartons so one box could come out without a full unpack. When the next lease began, they gave thirty days’ notice. That notice is the same on every agreement here, whether the stay was the one-month minimum or something longer. They booked the bay again, borrowed the hand truck again, and cleared the Box Room.

The building they used has been here since 2014. It is one dedicated building, six floors, 412 units, five sizes. Ines Varga founded it and still manages it. Their agreement did not depend on a second branch, because there is not one. Priya Nair handles contracts and accounts, so the notice and the last month sat with her. Mei Lin Ho, the size adviser, is who the desk would have brought in if the studio load had been close to a Spare Room. A Spare Room is 5 m², 54 sq ft, at $148 a month, and it is described as a one-bedroom flat. They did not need it. A Closet, at 1.5 m² and $62, would not have taken the studio. The Box Room was the match, and the five months were simply how long the gap between the leases lasted.

If you are in a similar gap, book a slot, walk the twenty minutes, and decide with the door open. Call 555-0142 during desk hours, or use the visit form. Bring photo ID if you might sign, and a card if you might pay the first month the same day. You can also bring a list and the measurements of any piece you are unsure about. If you leave without signing, the visit has still done what it is for.
