The peopleon the crew

Six people lead the work at Daichi Landscapes. You will meet them on the survey, the planting weeks or the aftercare that follows handover.

Founder, landscape architect

Hana Mori-Ellis

Hana Mori-Ellis, founder and landscape architect. She founded Daichi Landscapes Ltd. in 2009 and still writes every planting plan. In weeks 3–5 she sets species so that 60% are native or adapted, then returns for the handover walk in week 12. Her plans cover campuses, hospitals and civic streets across Metro Vancouver, from a single forecourt to a 1.2 km street.

Operations lead

Marcus Delgado

Marcus Delgado, operations lead. He turns the survey notes into a crew schedule and holds each job to its weeks: preparation in weeks 6–8, planting in weeks 9–11. He keeps campus, hospital and street work moving on weekdays, and he is the reason a courtyard can stay open while the crew is on site. The Monday to Friday yard hours, 7:00–17:00, are the frame he plans inside.

Arborist

Priya Raman

Priya Raman, arborist. She checks species, stake and clearance on street trees before a pit is closed, and she directs winter pruning with a crew of 3. At the end of 24 months she records establishment. The counts she stands behind are 62 of 64 trees at Northshore College, 3 of 3 courtyards at Riverside General Hospital, and 109 of 112 trees on Fraser Street.

Crew lead, planting

Tom Okafor

Tom Okafor, crew lead for planting. He runs the pit work in weeks 9–11 and sets the guards on street trees as they go in. Northshore College’s 64 trees and Fraser Street’s 112 street trees were planted under his lead. He works to the plan Hana wrote, on campuses and on civic streets, and he does not add trees once the surveyed count is in the ground.

Irrigation & green roofs

Elise Brandt

Elise Brandt, irrigation and green roofs. She lays watering lines in beds and planters and checks drip on green roof installs, which start at $145 CAD per m². Through the 2 seasons of watering that come with a street tree, her lines are what the crew inspects. Hospital courtyards and campus beds are part of her round whenever the plan calls for irrigation rather than a hose alone.

Aftercare coordinator

Samuel Quist

Samuel Quist, aftercare coordinator. He takes each planting contract at the week 12 handover and schedules seasonal care for 24 months. A visit on his list starts at $420 CAD. He tracks the 2 seasons of watering included with street trees and calls Priya or Tom when a stake, a cut or a replacement question needs a crew. Clients hear from Samuel for the whole aftercare period.
