Two surveyors measuring a tree pit with a tape and tablet

Twelve weeks,then 24 months

A planting contract moves through six stages, from the first measurement to 24 months of aftercare. The weeks below are the weeks we schedule.

Six stages

From the first tape to month 24

Week 1–2

Site survey

Every planting contract starts with a site survey in weeks 1–2.

Week 3–5

Planting plan

Hana Mori-Ellis writes the planting plan in weeks 3–5.

Week 6–8

Ground preparation

Ground preparation runs in weeks 6–8.

Week 9–11

Planting

Planting runs in weeks 9–11 under Tom Okafor, crew lead for planting.

Week 12

Handover walk

Week 12 is the handover walk.

24 months

Seasonal aftercare

Seasonal aftercare runs for 24 months after the handover walk.

01

Site survey, weeks 1–2

Every planting contract starts with a site survey in weeks 1–2. The starting price is $1,200 CAD, and it includes the planting plan that follows. On site, two surveyors measure the tree pits, the paving edges and the room the canopy will need. A tape and a written record are the tools.

The notes cover campuses, hospital courtyards and civic streets the same way. Marcus Delgado uses them to hold the later weeks to a crew schedule. No tree is ordered in this stage. If you are booking now, winter planting slots for 2027 open with this survey, not with a shovel.

02

Planting plan, weeks 3–5

Hana Mori-Ellis writes the planting plan in weeks 3–5. She is the founder and the landscape architect. The plan names what goes in each pit, bed, courtyard or planter, and it has to clear two policies before we call it finished. 60% of the species are native or adapted.

80% of the planting stock will be grown within 150 km. Elise Brandt reads the plan where the job includes irrigation, a green roof or planters. The plan is also where quantities meet the starting prices, so a street tree, a monthly campus ground or a green roof can be counted before week 6. You walk the plan with us before preparation begins.

03

Ground preparation, weeks 6–8

Ground preparation runs in weeks 6–8. Pits are opened to the sizes measured in the survey. Beds are shaped. On a green roof or in planters, this is when drainage and soil go in, priced from $145 CAD per m², with Elise Brandt leading.

On a street, preparation is the pit and the paving edge, ready for a guard. On a campus or a hospital courtyard, it is the ground up to the area surveyed, whether that is a forecourt of 1,800 m² or 3 courtyards. Marcus Delgado keeps this stage inside its weeks so planting is not pushed into a guess. We do not plant into ground that skipped this step.

04

Planting, weeks 9–11

Planting runs in weeks 9–11 under Tom Okafor, crew lead for planting. Street trees are set with a guard. The street tree rate starts at $680 CAD per tree and includes the guard and 2 seasons of watering. Priya Raman, arborist, checks species against the plan, then stake and clearance, before the crew leaves the pit.

Campus forecourts and hospital courtyards are planted in these same weeks. The Northshore count was 64 trees. The Fraser Street count was 112. Both passed through this stage, three weeks, one crew lead, the plan from weeks 3–5 unchanged at the pit.

05

Handover walk, week 12

Week 12 is the handover walk. We walk the site with the client: every pit, the beds, the courtyards or the roof planters, against the plan. This is a working walk, not a ceremony. Questions about stakes, watering and access are answered on the ground.

Samuel Quist is there because he coordinates what happens next. The client leaves with the plan and with a named aftercare contact. Planting is complete at the end of this week. The contract is not. Every planting contract continues for 24 months, and the walk is the point where that period starts.

06

Seasonal aftercare, 24 months

Seasonal aftercare runs for 24 months after the handover walk. Samuel Quist coordinates it. A seasonal aftercare visit starts at $420 CAD. Street trees carry 2 seasons of watering inside the $680 CAD tree price.

Winter pruning, when a tree needs it, starts at $1,950 CAD per day for a crew of 3, with Priya Raman. At the end of 24 months we record establishment. The records we already hold are 62 of 64 trees at Northshore College, 3 of 3 courtyards at Riverside General Hospital, and 109 of 112 street trees on Fraser Street. Those counts are the aftercare result, written per case.

Winter planting slots for 2027 are open.
