Case facts

Case facts

Client type: hospital. Place: Metro Vancouver. Year: 2023. Scope: 3 courtyards and a sensory garden. After 24 months, 3 of 3 courtyards were established. The contract ran the six stages we use on every planting job, from the site survey in weeks 1–2 through seasonal aftercare for 24 months. Hana Mori-Ellis wrote the planting plan. Elise Brandt led irrigation. Samuel Quist coordinated aftercare. Marcus Delgado scheduled the crew around a hospital that stayed open. The establishment record on this case is the courtyards: 3 of 3.

Three courtyards and a sensory garden

Riverside General Hospital asked for 3 courtyards and a sensory garden, and the work was completed in 2023. The courtyards hold benches and grasses. The garden is for people who use the hospital at close range, so the planting had to be readable by touch, scent and sight without asking the building to change how it runs. Weeks 1–2 were the survey of the three spaces. Weeks 3–5 were the plan.

Hana Mori-Ellis applied the same policies as on a street: 60% native or adapted species, and 80% of stock grown within 150 km. Weeks 6–8 prepared the ground. Weeks 9–11 planted the courtyards. Elise Brandt set irrigation so the grasses and the sensory garden could be watered on a schedule the hospital could live with. Marcus Delgado kept the crew movements inside the weeks the survey had set.

After the handover walk

The handover walk was in week 12. Hospital staff walked the 3 courtyards with the crew, including the sensory garden, and Samuel Quist took aftercare from that day. Aftercare ran 24 months, the length written into every planting contract. A courtyard is not a street tree, so the record we keep is not a tree count. It is the courtyards themselves.

After 24 months, 3 of 3 courtyards were established. The sensory garden is inside that record, not a fourth site. Benches stayed in use. Grasses stayed in the planting plan. We do not add a claim about patients or about recovery. The case says the 3 courtyards were planted in 2023 and were established after 24 months, which is the whole of the result we state.
