Case facts
Case facts
Client type: college. Place: Metro Vancouver. Year: 2024. Scope: 64 trees and 1,800 m² of planting. After 24 months, 62 of 64 trees were established. The work was a planting contract, so it included the site survey, the planting plan, ground preparation, planting, the handover walk and seasonal aftercare. Hana Mori-Ellis wrote the plan. Tom Okafor led the planting crew. Priya Raman checked the trees. Samuel Quist coordinated the 24 months that followed week 12. The establishment count, 62 of 64, is the ring we keep on this case.

Planting the forecourt
Northshore College needed a forecourt that would keep working as a campus entrance, with young trees set into paving people actually cross. In 2024 we took the job as an ordinary planting contract. Weeks 1–2 were the site survey: pits, edges and the room each of the 64 trees would need inside 1,800 m² of planting. Weeks 3–5 were the planting plan. Hana Mori-Ellis held the plan to the same two rules we use on every job, 60% native or adapted species and 80% of stock grown within 150 km.
Weeks 6–8 were ground preparation. Weeks 9–11 were planting. Tom Okafor’s crew set the trees, with guards where walking routes pass the pits. Priya Raman checked stake and clearance before each pit was closed. Nothing in the scope was added after the plan. The college got 64 trees and 1,800 m², which is the record.

Handover and the 24 months
Week 12 was the handover walk. College staff walked the forecourt with the crew and took the plan for the next 24 months. Samuel Quist coordinated seasonal aftercare from that week. The forecourt is campus ground, so the monthly care of a ground like this sits in the same family as our campus maintenance work, while the establishment watch sat with aftercare.
At 24 months the case record shows 62 of 64 trees established. We leave the figure as a count of trees, not a percentage and not a promise about the next campus. The two trees outside that count remain part of the same record. People still cross the forecourt between buildings. The young trees are the ones planted in 2024, on the paving measured in weeks 1–2, under a plan that did not change the 64 or the 1,800 m².
