The people who stay

Seven people keep Shiori Books. Hanna Moreau and Callum Reid opened it in 2011. The others arrived between 2015 and 2021, and they are still here.

( SEVEN NAMES )

Seven names

Seven people keep the shop, and the list is short on purpose.

They are the people you will see at the counter, in the back room, or at the bench. Regulars sometimes stay after closing to finish a chapter. The shop is still the two rooms it grew into: the front room for new books, the back room for everything Callum buys and for Saturday night.

( A NOTE FROM THE BACK ROOM )

A note from Amara Osei

I have hosted the Saturday reading since 2015. The back room is already the second-hand room. At 19:00 we open the door for the evening, and at 19:30 someone reads until 20:30. There are 30 seats. A seat is £5, and that £5 comes off any book you buy before you leave. Some nights I introduce a guest and then sit down. Elin Sørensen looks after the poetry shelves and is in the room on Saturdays. If you would rather come in the morning, Lucía Ferrer’s story hour is the second Saturday of the month at 11:00, and it is free. The next translator’s night is Mireille Dufort, with me, on 07.11.
