Plants a household
can keep.

Grown on Alder Lane
since 1998.

Every plant on our benches has spent a season with us first, acclimatising to local air and seasonal light. We raise hardy shrubs, quiet indoor foliage, and kitchen herbs that settle naturally into everyday domestic routines.

On the benches — this month

We rotate forty-two outdoor and glasshouse benches weekly as batches mature and outdoor temperatures shift. Browse current potted stock ready for immediate collection or garden planting across four main benches: In Season, Shrubs & Trees, Perennials, and Herbs & Indoor.

Growing on
Alder Lane

We raise our stock slowly under six glasshouse bays and across open gravel yards. Because our plants spend months adjusting to unfiltered morning daylight, cool damp evenings, and seasonal temperature swings, their root networks grow dense and resilient before they leave the benches.

When a shrub or fern moves from our care into your home, it experiences none of the shock common to greenhouse-forced specimens. You take home a plant that has already learned to withstand everyday weather, drafty hallways, and ordinary household rhythms.

How we choose
a plant with you

Selecting a plant should always start with the room it will inhabit rather than an impulsive visual attraction. We consider four practical conditions before recommending any specimen from our glasshouse.

Light

Where will it stand?

Note whether the spot gets harsh southern sun, cool morning light or soft north daylight before you choose.

After
the weekend

Monday mornings on Alder Lane are dedicated to restocking swept benches, trimming foliage, and reviewing customer planting notes from the weekend rush. Thirty days after any on-site planting visit, our team calls or emails to see how your newly established specimens are taking root in your garden soil. We discuss watering depth, mulch settling, and early leaf emergence to ensure your shrubs and perennials settle safely through their first critical month in place.
