Five checks before a long drive

Tomás Ortega keeps a laminated card by the service desk with five lines on it. Tyres, oil, lights, wipers, fuel or charge. It takes five minutes and catches most of the problems that end a road trip early.

Check the tyres with a coin or a gauge and look at the sidewalls for bulges. Pull the dipstick on a cold engine. Walk around the car while someone presses the brake pedal and flicks the indicators. Test the wipers on a dry screen, then top up the washer fluid.

If you would like a second pair of eyes, book the $39 state safety inspection at any of our three sites. It takes about forty minutes and you get a printed sheet to take with you.
